Jack Christie - Forest of Deer c1971
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took a large number of photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.
Jack Christie is demonstration the depth of peat possibly in a site near New Pitsligo where the Forestry Commission acquired a number of small areas of former peat cuttings. The other images in the attached PDF show him pointing out a foliage browning problem with Sitka spruce and secondly more problems in Sitka spruce planted on heather covered ground.
Jack was the head forester at Forest of Deer for many years and he may have been playing host to a visiting party from the Conservancy or even Head Quarters at the time of these photographs.
