Dod Melvin’s Harvesting Squad

Dod Melvin’s Harvesting Squad

Date Added: 04 December 2012 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1971 Picture No: 1358

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site. Check under ‘Groups’ and George Dey Collection.

This series of photographs shows a feller working for Dod Melvin, harvesting contractor, on Pittodrie Estate. He is initially felling the Sitka spruce tree and further on in the PDF is chainsaw snedding off the branches. No helmets at this time but certainly he has earmuffs.

Can anyone identify the operator and also the type of saw he is using?

Not sure of the operator but the saw he is using is a Dolmar CA, 56cc and produced between 1966 and 1978, this being the later anti vibration model with the rubber handle mounts. Comment left on 27 December 2012 at 02:43 by Dave Barnes
