Plough cross draining with winch

The location of this operation is not known but could possibly be in the Inverinan. The very wide tracked County is winching in the Cuthbertson plough up to its position. Looking behind the plough a cross drain cutting across the normal ploughing can just be seen. It is most likely the tractor has unhitched the plough and run a bit ahead on the proposed line of a cross drain and the then pulled the plough by winch towards it with the plough head forming a drain as it is pulled. Tractors did not have enough track grip to directly pull a plough drain up hill and often used this winching method.
Duncan Macdougall thought one of the photographs was taken near Loch na Streing. The road in the distance at the back is an access road for dam and tunnel to divert water to catchment area of the Melfort Hydro Scheme below Add Dam.
