Inverliever Forest - Man with clearing saw

Inverliever Forest - Man with clearing saw

Date Added: 22 November 2012 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1963 Picture No: 1328

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site.

This image an the two in the PDF show a forester working on developing a method to cut dense Sitka spruce natural regeneration yet leave enough stems to form the new crop of trees. It is likely the trees were growing naturally in the forest clearings following the tidy up of windblow and the dense mat of thousands of trees growing very close together would have been seen as a difficult problem.

Duncan Macdougall, Inverinan, wondered if this man was Bill Mason but not sure. Can anyone name the man?

Possibly an Alasdair Morrison who came from Carradale to Inverliever. Comment left on 21 January 2015 at 19:19 by Angela Cumming
