Inverliever Forest P16 Windblow

Inverliever Forest P16 Windblow

Date Added: 14 November 2012 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1963 Picture No: 1316

The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site.

In his diaries George records on 31 Jan 1957 ‘Wild day some ‘blow in Inverliever’ again on 4 Feb ‘Wild night now estimate 110,000 cu ft blown’. On 18 Sep 1961 ‘W gales – bags of blow and power cuts’ 18 Sep ‘Tour of Inverliever blow 150/200,000 cu ft with fair proportion of larch and Douglas fir’.

The gales were obviously beginning to knock holes in the older plantations before 1960 and these were being cleared up in the harvesting processes. It is also seen in the images that young trees are growing well in the gaps and as scrub cutters were being used this suggests that natural regeneration had taken off. See PDF attached.
