Inverliever forest was the biggest man-made forests in Scotland in 1951 at over 12,000 acres. It was originally acquired by the state as a Crown land in 1907 and transferred to the Forestry Commission shortly after its formation. This planning map from about 1956 shows the forest divided into thinning blocks being thinned in rotation and every three years. Also in the lower map the planting years (P Years or PY) are indicated and some can be seen ie PY 09 with would indicate that some of the trees were almost 50 years old in 1957.
