Fire edge at Glendoll Forest
The photograph is courtesy of the family of George Dey. George took many forestry photographs in his forestry career and some are now shown on this web site.
This shows the effects of ploughing a very large furrow next to the outside fence in helping to stop a fire spreading into the forestry planting ground. The large double width furrow has stopped the fire except for a small section down at the bottom of the photograph. It is not recorded what man power action, if any, helped stop the fire at that point.
The large photographs shows more clearly the effect of the fire on the fence posts and wire and note that the birch fire brooms look as though they have been recently replaced!
