I lived next door to Margaret Gauld from 1966 to 1969 and I have very fond memories of Dalavich and the people who lived there. John and Barbara Selfridge were my parents, I'm Nancy Comment left on 08 April 2007 at 23:24 by Nancy Mowatt (nee Selfridge)
My family lived in Dalavich from 1952 to about 1960 when we emigrated to Australia. My Father was John Walker he operated the horses in the Forestry.
After 3 years we moved to New Zealand. My father passed away in the early 80's.
Looking at the photograph it is hard now to pick out individuals but my brother and I are probably there

If it helps. clicking on "Larger version" just under the frame, pops up the same photo, click on it again to enlarge fully. That may assist in identifying faces.

I am one of the pupils - front row, button through dress. I was living with my grandparents and Aunt and uncle at Fernoch as my mother was seriously ill. I recall many stories about my school days under the lash. Happy to share if anyone is interested Comment left on 07 September 2010 at 20:58 by Frances Martin (nee Johnson)

Dalavich School Picture. I see that the intention to add all the names was never carried out. I have added a PDF (see PDF symbol below the picture) and if it is clicked on and opened the picture with numbers against all the people should be revealed.

Can anyone provide names for any or all of the numbered people? If anyone does I will add them to the main text in due course. Thank you.

Dalavich School Picture. I have added in the names provided by Jessie MacLeod but not sure if I have got them in the correct order. Can someone please check and also correct any name spelling as there are many versions of Mac Mc and capitals or not within the name etc? Comment left on 07 October 2011 at 20:22 by Norman Davidson

Going by the age of some of the pupils named in this photo it can't be from 1955 - maybe 1945 Comment left on 27 December 2017 at 07:25 by Catherine Stewart
I lived in Dalavich from 1953 to 1961 and went to school there. My dad was John McKeand who worked for the forestry commission. My uncle Alistair Morrison also was there. Myself and my cousins Alistair, Fiona and Catriona went to school in Dalavich. My best friend I remember was Mhairi Burns. Happy memories. My Wife Marion and I lodged with Alice and Johnnie Walker in 1956 before moving into No4A. We left with two Daughters, Linda and Julie, in 1965. I am now 85 and live in Dumfries. Alice used to sing "Que Sera, Sera" beautifully! Comment left on 27 August 2018 at 16:49 by David Main
Not many with the name of David Main in forestry but recall one who was a Forester in Glengarry in the 1970s and on retiring from there worked as a driver for Macrae and Dick the car people. Comment left on 27 August 2018 at 16:55 by Norman Davidson
Enjoyed looking at the school photo again. Remember David Main and I delivered his first baby in Oban Maternety Hospital. Hope they are all well. Comment left on 19 July 2020 at 08:24 by Jessie MacLeod ( McLugash)
Hello Jessie MacLeod. I am that baby you delivered. Thank you! I am now 62 and, yes, I am well as are my Dad and sister. Went back to Oban a couple of years ago and had my photo taken outside what was the hospital. Happy memories of Dalavich. Comment left on 20 July 2020 at 07:15 by Linda Whitelaw ( nee Main)

I think we moved to Dalavich in 1953. Mr Ferguson and his wife where the school teachers there. I know most of the people in the photograph. Fond memories of Dalavich. Often return. Comment left on 22 July 2020 at 14:46 by Richard dearn
Think the photo has to be several years before 1955. Possibly 1951/52. Comment left on 06 October 2020 at 02:49 by Isabel Harris
Love to keep in contact with Dalavich and the people that lived there from 1950-1956.Jessie MacLeod. (McLugash) Comment left on 06 October 2020 at 09:05 by Jessie MacLeod
From memory I lived at no 11 ( Can't recall if it was a or b) . Do remember the Stewart's lived next door. Think we came in 1951 and left 1954. The reason I think that photo is earlier is that I remember Chrissie Clark and she was about 12 when I was 8. Also it is a stone building behind the photo and the school would have been wooden in 1955. My maiden name was Jones. Comment left on 06 October 2020 at 15:15 by Isabel Harris
I lived in Dalavich when I was 2 years old with my mum and dad, Peggy and George, my older brothers Michael and George and baby brother Stephen, I'm looking forward to finding out more about the village and going back there again ???? Comment left on 10 May 2021 at 13:22 by Joe malcolmson
My husband’s brothers are Duncan, George and Donald Macgregor. I believe that Duncan is number 16, George is number 12 and Donald is correctly identified as number 6. The photo must date from either the summer term of 1947 or else 1948. Comment left on 19 July 2021 at 19:27 by E Macgregor
