Culbin and RoseIsle Forests circa 1932
The images are courtesy of the family of late George Dey who have gifted the actual slides to Aberdeen University.
This final set of images in the PDF depicts a variety of images from rooting depth of Corsican pine in the sand, J W Mackay standing beside a blown out tree stump, the Buckie Loch and some larger Scots pine trees in Comp 51 obviously from the original late 1800 planting. The last four images are of the early attempts in Roseisle Forest in Comps 72-75 to create a large littoral dune next to the sea edge with permeable fencing.
From old Culbin Forest History records it has been established that J W Mackay was a District Officer covering that area in 1924-1925 and the photograph was likely to have been taken then. As he is carrying several ranging rods this may have been the time when most of the Culbin area was divided up into compartments and the rides marked on the ground.
