Sonny Sutherland, one of the harvesting team at Ardross Forest, is felling Scots pine in quite a large clear fell area circa the early 70s. As well as felling the trees he would cut the branches off possibly using an axe but about this time the lighter chainsaws were also being used to do this job. The days of the axe were numbered!

Following felling, the trees were in this case hauled out in full length by a tracked tractor and sulky (see earlier photographs).

Sonny is using possibly a Jonsered saw but can somebody confirm? There is little sign at this early stage of protective helmets, trousers or gloves.
