Map of Syre acquisition area - Naver Forest
Courtesy of North Highland Forest District.
This large table sized map covers a large swathe of land from east of Loch Naver through to Loch Rimsdale. In the large sized image the yellow boundary of the acquisition can just be made out in which the new plantations of Syre, Rossal, area west of Dailharraild and over to the east Rimsdale have been established.
Within the unplanted area (at time map was in use) hand written notes all over the area give some indication of the future planting potential. Notes indicate - deep peat, grass basin bog, infertile deep flat peat, rocky outcrops, higher exposed ridges not plantable etc.
As it turned out new areas were fenced off and the plantations did expand into some of the areas in the 70s and 80s.
