Garron Brochure supplied to Colin Smith
Colin Smith of Ord Brae, Huntly has kindly supplied a copy of this brochure which he received in 1977 following his request for information on James Jones and Sons machinery.
The Garron was one of the early light weight tracked vehicles which eventually came under the category of All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). They were used by estates for hill work and by forestry contractors for delivering fencing and other material out onto the more difficult hill sites. The author recalls seeing one being demonstrated circa 1963. See the PDF for the full leaflet
Heavier tracked vehicles which were used following on from the Caterpillar D2 were the Weasel, the Snowcat and the very expensive but robust Canadian Bombardier Muskeg with its large load carrying capacity.
Can anyone recall other light weight ATV machines of that time? Argocats circa1975?
