Loch Maree Islands Wester Ross

Date Added: 30 June 2012 Contributor: Norman Davidson Year of Photo: 1980 Picture No: 1185

Photograph courtesy of Jim McIntyre, Balbeggie.

Jim was in the light photography aircraft that was carrying out an aerial survey of Slattadale and other forests in October 1980. The photograph shows the Natural Caledonian Scots Pine clad islands and Jim goes on to say:
‘Although not on my original flight plan, the photograph was taken on the final run during a survey flight of Slattadale forest. The light and calm conditions seemed too good to miss. Unfortunately I missed the two FC Islands off the left of the frame, Eilean Ruairidh Mor and Beag. The unplanted/bare area on the large island (top right) was reputed to be the result of a fire caused by wartime army manoeuvres’

A really excellent photograph showing a large amount of ground detail - check the large image.

About quarter way in from right and about half way up... island in a lake on an island (Eilean Subhainn) in a lake (Maree) on an island (GB). Only other instance of 5 degrees of nesting is Vulcan Point, Luzon. Comment left on 19 May 2015 at 22:07 by John Fewster
