Double drum winch at Dalavich

Double drum winch at Dalavich

Photograph courtesy of Will Anderson which shows a Double drum winch in High lead extraction set up at Dalavich. It looks like an Igland Winch and Drum set up with an Isachsen type tower. Is this a Chapelhall built Ford 3000 or 4000 Cable Crane which was fitted with a modified Igland winch?
This crane is in High Lead Set up (that is without the fixed skyline) and was very handy for short timber hauls (about 100yds) to the roadside. The trees look as though they were felled and only partially converted on the steep slope with perhaps the cross cutting of the pulp material being done at roadside. Not sure how the tower is anchored back onto – a large log?

The tractor looks like a Leyland 255 or 262, with an igland 8000 winch with hydraulic levers, as was used on the Jones trailer alp. Comment left on 29 June 2012 at 11:48 by Robert Hannah
