John Keenleyside says ‘Photograph was taken by me the 70's when I was Chief Forester at Ardgartan Forest. The house on the extreme left was a Dorran, supposed to be the Chief Foresters house, but the Head Forester was installed in it and hoping to get the Chief Forester’s job when Bert Angus retired. However I was sent in as Chief Forester and the older house was allocated to me, the same type of bungalow as the ones at Shin. The houses in the foreground are Glen Loin Crescent where half were occupied by council tenants and half by torpedo range workers. These were one and a half storey houses. Behind them was the forestry workers village of Succoth consisting of 24 two storey Swedish timber houses.
The farm of Succoth was a hill sheep farm with grazing from Succoth along the Cobbler block and right to the top of the Rest and be Thankful. The farmers were three generations of Paterson family.’
