Experiment sites in Shin Forest

The picture shows Walter Paterson, Head Forester Research based at Lairg in a small plot of what is labelled P74 WFSxSS4 Gentics. Possibly Dalchork Forest.
Possibly a cross between White spruce and Sitka spruce planted in 1974 with the aim of gaining growth vigour but more importantly a greater resistance to late spring frosts which frequently damage Sitka spruce in its younger stages. Does WFS signify White spruce female flower - can anyone clarify the terminology?
The next image in the PDF show Sitka spruce originating from home collected seed (P74 SS [411]) and probably used as a control to compare growth with the cross WFS/SS cross.
The last image shows Walter Paterson again but in a block of Olney origin Lodgepole pine which has suffered severe snow damage in Jan 1978.
