Deep sub-soiling with Caterpillar D7

The series of photographs shows the D7 equipped with a deep ripper bar mounted on a hydraulically operated beam working on the Teindland Forest experimental site. The modified rock ripping bar and tooth has been modified by the addition of a longer front sock and two side wings to maximise sub soil disturbance to reduce compaction and provide some aeration. This machine was used to rip at 1 and 2 m spacing as can be seen in the PDF images.
