Deep tine plough behind D7
Photographs courtesy of Forest Research, Newton, Elgin.
Two of the ploughing treatments in experiment T111 included the use of a very deep tine plough designed to reach down as far as 90cms with furrow depth maximum at around 60cms. The photograph demonstrates the large and heavy dimensions of the single furrow tine head on a large hydraulically operated beam behind the Caterpillar D7.
As it turned out the Caterpillar D7 had such poor grousers on its tracks it was not able to pull the plough at maximum depth and resulted in the depths being 15 cms shallower. The plough was used for complete ploughing at 1m spacing as well as spaced ploughing at 2 and 3 m spacing. The sites were all sub-soiled with the deep ripper bar first.
Can anyone name the drivers of D7 Reg No MGN581L?
