Marking trees in Clashindarroch Forest
Photograph courtesy of John Allison, Huntly
The image shows John Allison using an axe to mark Scots pine at Raibets Hill, Clashindarroch Forest that would have been eventually sold as standing trees to a timber merchant who would fell them.
John was part of a four man team who marked and measured crop trees in order to provide data to work up the details of total volume, average tree size, number and species range from which the value of the total parcel was calculated.
At that time the team consisted of Gordon Thom (Ganger), Jimmy Christie, Richard Walker and John Allison. In fact Gordon can just be seen in the distant background almost hidden by a tree.
