The three gentlemen (retired) collectively had a range of experience that spanned an enormous spectrum of forestry knowledge and this during a period in which forestry and timber production development had advanced from very traditional basic stages into the highly scientific, hydraulic, electronic and computerised systems age.
Jack Evans was a widely respected Forestry Consultant for many years at the Inverness firm of Bingham, Hughes and Macpherson.
John Matthews initially trained it seems at Benmore Forestry School but later entered and completed his forestry degree at Aberdeen University.He was appointed to initiate work in forest genetics at Alice Holt, Farnham, Surrey in September 1948 and led the work until 1963 when he was appointed Chair of Forestry at Aberdeen. Tom Woolridge was a District Officer with the Forestry Commission in his early days but joined the long established family sawmill firm of AG and WJ Riddochs (Rothiemay) around 1950 and retired as General Manager of the revamped firm Riddochs of Rothiemay Ltd circa 1980.
